He announced a green financing agreement with the EIB and promoted a dialogue between young climate leaders and executives
Neoenergia, the Brazilian subsidiary of our parent company Iberdrola, played a prominent role in the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), held in Belém, Brazil.
First, Neoenergia and the European Investment Bank hosted an event to celebrate a €300 million green financing agreement, which will be used to modernize the electricity grid in Bahia. The funds will be allocated to expanding the electricity grid and building new connections, as well as investing in automation equipment. Neoenergia will use the loan to implement projects that will allow more people, especially in low-income communities, to access clean energy in Bahia.
As Solange Ribeiro, Vice President of Neoenergia, pointed out, "Thanks to this new project, already underway, Neoenergia will be able to intensify its investments in Bahia, focusing on modernizing the distribution network throughout the state. This initiative will be fundamental to ensuring that renewable energy reaches Bahian communities safely and efficiently."
Meeting with Young Leaders
On the other hand, Iberdrola and Neoenergia also held, within the framework of COP30, the "Youth Dialogue on Green Job Opportunities," in which seven young people from the PerifaConnection and Observatório das Baixadas projects participated, as well as executives from various companies.
The meeting highlighted how the transition to a green economy opens up new professional opportunities for young people and the challenges of taking advantage of them.
“We are living through an unprecedented time, and the green transition needs the energy, creativity, and determination of young people. The opportunities generated by the electrification of the economy and the expansion of technologies like artificial intelligence can only be seized by them with appropriate training and the development of specific skills for this moment. That is why education is key to the professionals of the future,” emphasized Solange Ribeiro.
